Warranty question

My car was delivered in January 2000 and is one of the early cars that has a love affair with oil. I drive the car about 80% of the time and only have 12,300 miles after owning it 2 years.

After the 1st year I took the car in to have the oil changed even though there were only 3 lights out because I had read somewhere in the manual or warranty book that the oil should be changed either when the lights indicate a need to change or every 12 months. The dealer changed the oil without question and concured that it was covered by the warranty on the car. I plan to take the car in for another annual oil change (only 1 light out) and I have tried to find the section in the owner books on this being covered under warranty and can't find it (I guess it is an age thing). Could someone let me know where it is located in the manuals? Thanks in advance.

Also, last night my "service engine soon" light came on. This was a problem with the early build cars and my ECU was reprogrammed to fix it. Does anyone know if this problem has begun to occur again?

TC,

Look in your "Service and Warranty Information" booklet (not the Owner's Manual). Although I have a 2002 Z8, the engine (S62) is the same. On page 3, I quote:

"Oil Service: Engine oil should be changed with the engine at operating temperature. Note: Change the oil at least once a year."

This may not be stated in your older build warranty booklet, but if not, I believe it is recommended maintenance for all models, any year. Check with your service advisor, but don't take "no" for an answer. It should be changed yearly, regardless of milage.

I live close to the office and my second car is a 996TT. I do like to take the M5 for long drives - this is nothing better on the road for that type of driving.
