Exhaust noise level with Eisenmanns

I have recently bought a 2002 M5 which has had the oem exhaust system replaced by a Eisenmann race cat back system. I find it too loud. What effect would the replacement of the center silencer have on the loudness and drone. Has anyone compared with and without.Thanks in advance

So you are saying you got rid of the stock resonator and replaced it with straight through piping to your Eisenmann mufflers?

I have that same setup, except with Eisenmann sport mufflers. I have the Super Sprint X-pipe which eliminates the stock resonator. Getting rid of the resonator makes it quite a bit louder, and if you want it quieter I would have the OEM midpipe with the resonator put back in. Another option would be to have aftermarket resonators welded into your new mid pipe.

By the way, here is my car with stock mid pipe:

And with the SS X-pipe:

Thanks for the comparison. I was pretty shure that the center silencer being in place would make a big difference, however an "expert" indy mechanic was telling me that that is not the case as the centr unit does not do too much muffling ??? did not make sense to me. Any thoughts on alternatives to the very expensive oem center silencer. Thanks again

from your original post, I think you stated that you have the Race setup with an x-pipe. I have that setup up now. I originally had the stock resonator and the eisenmann race cans. There is a BIG difference from that setup to when I added the x-pipe. If it is too loud now, I would look to swap the stock resonator back in.

Where do you get drone? If it is anything above 2k RPMS, I might look into the installation. When I had mine installed, I made sure to have the x-pipe welded to prevent any leaks. I love the sound of it. Nothing overbearing as some make it out to be. Let me know if you have any questions.

Look for people who just installed an aftermarket exhaust, people pretty much give those things away as there is little to no market for the stock m5 exhaust unless they are parting a car to go back to stock.

I have eisenmann sport cans...

I tried it without the resonator and a supersprint X-PIPE with my eisenmann sport cans and I thought it was too loud/raspy. The stock resonator makes a significant difference compared to supersprint X pipe for sure. One way would be to stick in a pair of in line resonators instead of looking for the stock resonator reinstall, like this member did;

FS: e39 Supersprint X pipe

here's a clip of my eisenmann sports with the x pipe and without;

if the exhaust is still too loud I'll buy it off you... I like loud

would trade you my stock system plus dinero.

I bought the X-pipe with resonators noted above, still waiting for the right exhaust to install it with... was thinking of just ordering a Kelleners from Germany.
