Maintenance Advise Required

Hi,

My 2001 M5 has just over 100,000km (60,000mi) and other than some mass air flow sensors hasn't cost me anything in repairs or maintenance.

Based on your experience, are there any preventative repairs I should be considering? I don't want to waste money, but its often cheaper to prevent issues before they cause serious damage.

I'm thinking about such things as replacing fluids, the clutch...etc.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Roger

Your inspection II is coming. That means new spark plugs, all fluids (differential, transmission), filters.
I'd have a specialist lift my car and inspect it visually for new bushings, wheel bearings, front suspension elements.
I spoke with many BMW technicians and they recommend to go with OEM BMW products, in case you spend evenings browsing for different brands of lubricants and filters. 2c

I had the following done/replaced when my car turned 60k-I had no codes nor failures, just my commitment to a tip top mechanical condition. I changed all the filters (air, fuel and cabin), all the fluids ( differential, coolant, power steering, brakes and tranny ),precat O2 sensors, spark plugs and thermostat with a new housing. Also thrust arm bushings were starting to crack, differential seals were sweating, power steering hoses and lower oil pan solenoids were dripping and the oil separators hoses were deteriorating. While at it check the cooling system rubbers and sway bar brackets which tend to break very often..

Not sure tranny and diff oils are in inspection 2 cos I think the tranny oil is supposed to lifelong !!! but change these fluids anyway its a pretty easy job ........camshaft sensors are a weak point at this milage and I changed my clutch at 50,000 miles cos it started to slip..a friend of mine went through his in 13,000 miles !!! Also, change your 2 small top hoses situated on the top front of the engine if they're a bit squigy ( they will be ) cheap from BMW to buy and I also changed the bolts with washers attached to the engine cover cos they weep. Preventative maintenance is the name of the game.
