4ngiefest was good fun last year, despite the cold and rainy weather.

Aftermarket Stereo Loss of Car Computer?

Ok, so I have 2 of the most experienced people on the board telling me a capacitor is a waste of time. I guess I will just omit that from my install. I already OWN it, should I really not bother putting it in?
It won't hurt anything, but it doesn't do anything either (the relative capacity of a cap vs. your battery is 0) and it takes time to install.

Timmay: Thanks for the outline of the Pener baffle! Received it Saturday! Quick question: What depth MDF did you use for your baffles? 3/4" or 1/2" or 1/4"? Also, in your pics you show only one of the two speaker wire harnesses that. Did you tap into both or just tap into the front harness and run new lines to the rear speakers? Please let me know. Getting close to beginning my install! Thanks again.

The baffle was made from 1/2" MDF. My OEM speakers were dual voice coil, my Alpines are single, so I only used one set of leads to the woofer, and then a set for the tweeter. I did not run new wires, I used the OEM ones that run back to the 26 pin connect shown in my first post. If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know. If it is easier, PM me, I can give you my phone number so we can talk on the phone.....

Tim,

I am greatly enjoying your project here. This will make for great reference from time to time. I have not even read all of your posts here but I look forward to getting through them.

Good documentation and very creative fixes.

Did a little more work lat night. I got the bezel wrapped and ready for install, just waiting on the NVE-P1 to arrive so I can install the GPS antenna and the microphone for the phone. I also am waiting for my new Pac SWI-JACK (steering wheel control module) because my first one was defective, it had no output signal. I also almost have the 2 hidden compartments finished. Driver's side will house my 2 crossovers for the 6.5" door component sets, the Imprint module, and my DVD changer. The passenger's side will house the 6 disc CD changer and the power distribution blocks. Now remember, these are HIDDEN, so these will not look pretty at all. I am having a problem figuring out how to secure the mounting board on the passenger's side. I don't really want to drill and screw it to the car, I don't think there is anything under it except some heat shielding and the muffler. Anyone?

Also, I tried to do a quick search of radio stations now that I have my antenna hooked up, but I got nothing. I am wondering if Crutchfield sent me the correct radio adapter. I am posting pictures of what they sent me....

Wrapped bezel. Color matches pretty good, but the texture is a little off. The camera kind of ruins how good it really does look. It is much closer of a match in person.....

Driver's side

Passenger's side

This is the adapter that Crutchfield sent me. The connector is VERY small.

This is what I thought the radio antenna should have connected to.....

Until the rest of my parts show up, I really can't do anything to the dash. I plan on starting the sub box build tonight if I have time after the BMWCCA meeting.

Hey Tim. Antenna should connect to the connector in the second picture. At least, that is definitely the antenna connector for my BM53 radio. The connector in the first picture looks like the Bluetooth antenna connector.
