I am in the process of tearing out EVERYTHING from my 01 M5 and putting a complete aftermarket system in. I will update this thread as things progress. Let's start with the parts list of the new stuff...

Alpine IVA-W505 - 7" 2 din multimedia station
Alpine NVE-P1 - removable navigation drive (no vss needed)
Alpine PXA-H100 - Imprint module
Alpine DHA-S680 - DVD/CD Changer
Alpine SPX-17REF - 6.5" component set
Alpine SPS-500 - 5.25" co-axial rear fill
Alpine SWR-1242D (2) - 12" DVC 4 ohm subwoofer
Memphis Audio 16-MCD1000 - 1100x1 @ 1 ohm sub amp
Memphis Audio 16-MCA2004 - 4 channel amp

Pac TR7 - Video bypass module (illegal I know, I don't want to hear it :byee55amg)
PAC SWI-JACK - steering wheel control module

Mounting kit for deck from Ebay
eBay Motors: BMW 5 series E39 double din bezel &complete install-kit (item 360119388261 end time Jan-04-09 12:07:28 PST)=

Now for some pictures....

Hole in dash where the Nav monitor used to be.....

Rear deck removed, speaker for the PDC. (Thanks DouglasABaker)

Subwoofer location. These are actually mounted from the bottom, but the screws have to be removed from the top.

GPS antenna (I think) on drivers side under the rear deck

Radio antenna (I think) in the drivers side rear pillar

Driver's side rear speaker loaction

Passenger's side rear speaker pod. Much larger than I thought they would be.

Trunk after my DSP Amp, Radio module, and CD changer were removed.

Wiring harness where I am going to tap into the speaker wires.

No, sorry, I know you have easy access to shorter bolts but was just asking if you could cut the ones that are too long with the Dremel.

The likely hood of water touching the screws is nil, and if that were the case, rusty nails would be the last of my concerns.

#414 ·
so you admit it's your fault then?

keep fighting the good fight....

I haven't had an issue shortening bolts with a dremel then removing the nut back over the "damaged" threads, that usually sorts em out!

Yeah, that's EXACTLY why I am doing this, just call me Raza. Not to SHARE with the rest of the community how to modify the car, but to feed my own ego. You got me. LOL. No problem sparky! I will just keep my stereo build to myself.....

End thread......

C'mon, Tim, don't stop sharing your work. I'm copying it all down and hope to use it myself once I get the guts to tear my audio system apart.

Although cutting the door panels might be more than I could stomach. lol

Thank you Peter.....

If you're online, that means your hands are clean after a long day of wrenching on the UberBeast. WHERE ARE THE PICTURES? LOL.

Oh, and todays craftsmanship turned out like POOP. So not happy with how the door panel turned out. I will be redoing that one after our ATL trip. Don't have time to backtrack now.....

Spent 6 hours today hammering away on this thing.....

I started by messing with the door cards. I got frustrated when they wouldn't go on, so I said screw it and decided to work on the A-Pillars.

I broke out my plunge router and a Jasper Jig. Here you can see the start of my baffle.

I am routing out the baffle so I can counter sink the L3.

Here I use a larger circle to create the ends of the baffle

Cut out the holes for the L1 and the L3 with a 1.5" and a 3" hole saw.

A perfect fit!

Duplicate for the passenger side....

I then used a jigsaw to finish cutting out the baffles and a palm sander to smooth of the edges. Here is the finished baffle.

Now I have to make some speaker grills. The plan is to cover the hole for the L3 and leaving the hole for the L1 open. The L1's are just too nice looking to cover up. I will cover the surface the L1 sits on, that will be exposed, with the same OEM suede as the A-Pillars.

I then used some poster board to create a lip for the speaker grill to sit in once it is fiberglassed into place.

I picked up some 528 A-Pillars from Ebay, stripped the beige sued off and am going to use those to mount my baffle to I don't ruin my OEM pillars.

Here is what I came up with for a mounting position, straight across the dash, off axis. I am being told that these Hybrid Audio Technologies Legatia drivers sound amazing off axis. I sure hope so. I used a laser pointer and a square to aim the baffles.

I then used some speaker grill cloth and hot glue to cover the baffle/A-Pillar in order to fiberglass it.

Mounted up in the car....

From my research, I am SUPPOSE to test them for imaging before I glass them up. I figure with the amount of equalization and time alignment I have (each individual speaker) I can tune out of any problems. I hope. I don't have the amps in the car now, so I CAN'T test it. Due to time constraints, I am just going to go ahead and glass them and hope for the best.....

Ok, after staring at these pictures for an hour, I have decided to start over.... LOL.... Seriously, the baffle is just too big. I am going to separate the L1 and L3 into 2 different baffles.... Damn it, wasted day.
