Superchargers are available!

As some of you may very well know, a small company (RGM) out in South Africa is producing superchargers. Engine output is 410kw (550bhp) and maximum torque of 668nm. For bigger brakes, clutch, and a different suspension along with the Superchrger, the price is $18,000.

Heres the thing, he would like for me to send him my car to in SA. I don't think so. He told me that the installation is simplem but he would like to be the one to do it because he designed the system (Mr. Rob Green).

$18,000 for brakes, suspension, clutch, and supercharger doesn't sound that bad (supercharger is a vortech). I asked him if he would be willing to take a trip to the US granted that I could find at least two more M5s that would like superchargers. He asked my what type of facilities he could use and I told him that if he does come, we will provide him with the best.

Would any of you guys be interested is something like this? When I told him that if I am going to send my car out of the US, it will go to Nowack or G-Power. He told me that his system does not even compete with Nowack!! No contest! I think the warranty on his work is for a year but he said we could arrange something else.

Any thoughts? Would anyone consider it?

Check the site out if you havn't all ready...RGM

Ah yes, I remember seeing a few threads on this guy a while back here?.. some thoughts on this..

First, it looks like a very clean install, but what happens if you have a problem with the system once installed and the guy goes back to SA?? With no authorized dealers here in the US, who do you turn to?

Second, have you checked this guy out to see how long he has been in business, checked him out with the BBB, asked for references, etc..?? to ascertain the company's health?

I know I am playing devil's advocate here, but just want to make sure you (or anyone else here) don't get taken.

Good luck with this and keep us posted.

Calalytic converters removed

Have you noticed part of the upgrade is removing the catalytic converters? That isn't too popular with the authorities, is it?

Especially in California with "flying" exhaust emissions checks...

Keeping the 11:1 compression?

Keeping the 11:1 compression with 0.5 BAR pressure increse from
the supercharger? What kind of octane number do you need
to avoid spontaneous (compression induced) ignition?

Supposing the intercooler is extremely good it might work, but what happens when outside air temperature increses (less intercooling effect)?

Light weight flywheel

The clutch upgradeinvolves changing the original dual-mass flywheel to a light weight one. Why?

I suppose the dual-mass flywheel was designed in to reduce vibrations.

I spoke to Osh a few days ago and he said that he saw this converstion and thought it was too complicated. And for the price, umm he said he would sell a 550 bhp supercharger kit with the after cooler (stage II) for about $10,000 ~12,000 and that comes with 2 years warranty. This is not final since the kit isnt ready yet.
I asked him to replace my clutch and he charged me for that. So i don't know if that will be included in 10~12 grand price.

I was thinking of changing it but i will decide when i get the car back. I might change it if it turns out that you keep running out of gear every 4 seconds!! Maybe a 2.85 540i diff ? we will have to wait and see what happens
