Mobil1 Rebate

For those of you who use Mobil1, I thought I would let you know that Mobil is feeling guilty about the lack of Mobil1 in the marketplace and is offering a $10 discount on your next purchase...

For the rest of you, No, we don't need a debate about Mobil1 vs. Castrol or TWS unless you are also offering a link to a coupon, in which case we can debate which rebate is for a larger amount

Seems like there's an issue with Mobil 1 5W30 Synthetic oil and all supply in the market was pulled out...

Some more reading about it, but the geist of it is that the 5W30 Synthetic oil is not up to par to standards...

Good news for you, 5W30 is the wrong oil for our cars anyway - we use 0W40.

We use 0W40? The manual in my 01 says any Full Synthetic 5w30 or Castrol 10w60.

I haven't used Mobil1 on the M5... Only TWS 10w60...

Not so sure about the specific of this news but other Mobil 1 oils might have the same issue, 5w30 was the only was tested since it was the most popular so who knows if the other's are up to spec....

Are you sure it doesn't say to use BMW 5W30? Because BMW 5W30 is about the same as Castrol 0W30, Mobil1 0W40, or Valvoline 5W-40 (all of which carry the bmw certification).

The key point here is that viscosity is a range, not an absolute, and the above oil weights are all about the same as the bmw 5W-30. In most cases, you will find that a full synthetic xW30 will be thinner at operating temperature than the BMW 5W30.

Just curious, what are you guys paying for Mobil 0w40? I just googled it and most prices were $7-8 per. I get BMW 5w30 cheaper than that from the dealer.
