Firehire???? Clarification??? Plus, is is suppose to snap-in AND charge AND subsequently able to still operate using the Bluetooth steeringwheel function??

Thanks

Steve
You don't have to dremel the snap in. The surrounding area on the armrest is what needs to be modified. The snap in charges the phone while still retaining all of the regular bluetooth functions.

Snapin adapters are supposed to do two things.

1.) Charge the Phone
2.) Link up to an external antenna for better signal

Unfortunately the majority of phones nowadays dont have the dongal for external antennas. So it's pretty much there to hold the phone and charge it while you drive. Everything still works via voice or steeringwheel/nav screen controls.

I'd buy it, but I'd bet my left nut that a new iphone will come out before the end of 2009.

why does it even matter? All it's going to be used for is charging. IIRC, the ifail oops...iphone doesnt support an external antenna. So long as they are the same shape, it shouldnt matter. My snap-in for a Motorola V710 works perfectly with my Motorola E815.

Like the iPhone and the iPhone 3G are the same? They're not, which is why there's a separate 3G adaptor. The next incarnation of the iPhone will probably be a different shape as well.

Adaptor for what? Charging? No...it works off the same cable that any 5g+ Ipod does. I know this for a fact. My brother has the 1st gen Iphone, sister has the 3G iphone...both use the same cable on my laptop to charge their phone when the battery goes dead. Data is all done via Bluetooth (ie transferring phonebook).

The 3G iphone has a different shape than the 1st gen, it is a bit thicker through the middle, so it does not fit in the 1st gen cradle properly. I tried test fitting one, and it would have required an unacceptable amount of modification to the cradle to get it to work.

I installed my iPhone 3G adapter this morning. Unlike the first generation adapter, there is NO Dremel modification necessary. The phone actually sits just above the section that we used to have to Dremel out. This is great news if you haven't "modified" your arm rest. I got mine for $117.00 from my dealer with my BMWCCA discount. See attached pics.
