eBay is just another way for these dealers to advertise. Don't count on eBay to give you any protection or guarantee. They won't.

What Ard said is very true - get a contract before flying up there. I've done exactly what you're doing - bought a car from an eBay seller by negotiating after the auction ended (and didn't meet reserve). By the time I flew down to Palm Beach to get the car, he had not gotten the title and we couldn't complete the deal - which, by the way, he was then trying to back out on because the price was too low. I had no contract, so I got screwed out of my time, my flight costs, but at least I got my deposit back. He's out of business now (yes, I tried to take him to court).

I replied to your first post on this car, and for $28,300 I'd be sorely tempted to buy it myself.

However, I'd arrange for and have the PPI done before I bought my plane ticket. It gives you more time to have any problems found and located, or if necessary, renegotiate the price a bit. Time is on your side.

If this doesn't pan out, for whatever reason, please update this thread so that I can pursue it (assuming that it is worth pursuing).

Best of luck to you. Keep us posted.

Michael

AutoCheck report, 3 owners! Score of 93, with similar vehicles getting 88-92. Follow the advice of previous posters. Good luck with your hunt.

Wouldn't seasons and years have more to do with it than miles when it comes to salt corrosion, paint damage, etc? I can't see 15K miles being a big advantage on a car that old unless it is an investmant and the M5 has not shown to be a great investment. Buy it to enjoy it and I doubt 15,000 miles will yield that premium over say my car with 60K miles for 17,500. I just don't see paying all that sales tax on an inflated amount for a 2001...JMO
