I just saw that on their web site. I have a SR1 in my beast and 8500 on my MDX. I wish I've waited to bought this instead of SR1. Although my SR1 saved me numerous times. I also like to hear from anyone who has SRX.
Thanks.

suggestion: Get the feb '02 Car and driver and read the review. Valentine continues to trounce escort in every test. Yes, I know they tested the 8500 and not the SRX, but escort's SRX web page clearly says "Utilizing technology from our award-winning Passport 8500".
Especially with laser, mounting the receivers low for stealth defeats the purpose. If your eye were down there, how much closer would you have to be to see the cop's laser gun? A lot. with laser, your ONLY hope is to catch beam scatter when the cop shoots the guy in front of you. If he shoots you (radar or laser) it is too late. detecting laser from scatter requires EVERY advantage in sensitivity because there isn't much. I know for a FACT that my V1 will catch it - because the cops set up a laser trap on a route I frequent. I have caught it every time while he shoots a car in front of me.
It is a nice unit aestheically, but for my money, if its inability to detect costs me even a single ticket, it just isn't worth it.

In the case of the SRX, it is actually best to mount it low like they do. The reason is that the SRX (unlike the SR1) has "laser shifting" technology, which is a slimy way to say "laser jamming". I guess they thought "jamming" would scare people away. The laser detectors used in jammers are best mounted as close to the license plate as possible to maximize your chances of catching the direct beam of laser aimed at your license plate. My jammer (Lidtek) is literally mounted on a license plate bracket
to add to Gregs points:
I found the stealth mounted radar/ laser detectors to drop in performance with the amount of dirt and grime that got on the "antenna" - this is especially true for laser. With a standard detector you just wash your windshield. I asled Valentine why they didnt make a stealth mount antenna and they echoed my opinion.
btw- I went back to Valentine. My wife surprised me! She had asked me if the V1 was good and I told her that from this new article I thought it would be better. I had taken the 8500 out of the car and put it on our kitchen counter- she dropped it and the face plate came off! She decided to replace it.
I have to tell you that when I switched from the 8500 I found the performance to be better in terms of range (this is in the least sensitive mode vs. the 8500s auto mode) but it was worse in terms of being faked out and I also miss the auto mute. I just keep the volume low. I think this new V1 has an improved muting though. Now when I hit mute- if another signal comes in within around 5 minutes, it beeps once and then goes to the mute volume. The unit is also physically not as tall. I think the C&D test got it right. I also think the 8500 is a very good detector- but Im happy to be back with V1

yes and laser shifting doesnt do very much because you have to line up perfectally with the laser- what if they readjust the laser to your hood? . I think laser is actually problematic for the police and thats why they are staying more with radar. they now have new guns that can do all kinds of tricks.
the best way to beat laser is to drive a really dirty black car- the beam has a harder time bouncing off it - but no one here would ever drive a dirty car :p
