Kimi Raikkonen has broken the lap record in Valencia this morning (Thursday), in only his second week at the wheel of a McLaren.
The young Finn overhauled his new team mate David Coulthard yesterday by just 0.017 seconds, on brand new Michelin development tyres.
Today he set a time of 1.12.593 after 36 laps in the morning, beating the existing lap record by nearly two tenths of a second.
Raikkonen only has one year's experience in the sport so far, at the wheel of a Sauber, and before this had only competed in 23 car races, in formula renault.
He had been hailed as a special talent last season, but a slight drop-off in the final three races of the year left some insiders doubtful as to how he would perform at McLaren.
This sizzling time is likely to prove any doubters wrong.
Testing continues until the break for lunch at 13.00 local time, and then resumes again at 14.00.
