The phone call we all dread (dealer crashed my Beast!)
Just had the service manager of BMW Norwood (MA) call to tell me that they smashed my beast on a road test!
The car was in for installation of a Autosolutions shifter, and I also asked them to adjust the Dinan rear bar to the outside setting, from the middle where it was when they installed the Stage 3. Tech (this is their story) turned the car into a side street, hit a patch of sand and lost control into a guard rail. I am on my way to look at the damage now - front fender, grill, hood, rim, tire, etc. I am sick! I'll post more when I have seen the damage.
Bumming in Mass!

Do you have any sort of plan?
Good luck. Hope this works out for you.

This is BAD news. I'm still pissed even though it is not my car. Let's hope the damage is minimal. Keep us posted. BTW, you are not the first victim. Bill Gomez's old M5 was also wrecked by the dealer. He has a new one now.

that really stinks! make sure you recover diminution in value when you collect from the dealer's insurance policy. a car that has been wrecked is always worth less and the amounts can be significant. i believe there are a number of very helpful websites that deal with this issue and give you assistance in perfecting you claim and stating your case. i do not have the links for them however.
good luck and sorry to hear about your beast.

Holy sh** Bill... this totally SUCKS! Make sure you get EVERYTHING in writing, and keep a log of what transpires. Really sorry to hear what has happened. Try and keep a positive attitude, and hope that everything will turn out in your favor.
Good luck,
-Doug

Ask them to tell you where the accident happened so you can see the "patch of sand" and the guardrail where he made contact to verify the validity of this unforseen "act of God (sand in the road)." This will give you a stronger position when they try to screw you out of proper compensation. Where was the DSC - off? - humm?
Sorry to read of your violation. I feel sick for you

Bill:
I am so sorry for you. I cannot beleive this . Why do they have to take it for a test ride? I am sorry but a patch of sand does not make you lose control unless you are turning in too fast or are too generous on the throttle. At our garage, we never take a car for a test ride unless it is absolutely needed. You could have gone up and driven the car to see if you thought everything was ok IMHO. There was no need to test the car. A short shifter can be tested in the garage and parking lot. Man, I am pissed off and it is not even my car. Hope the best comes out of this situation for you.
