SES Light with some codes

Hi All,
It took it to a mechanic who ran some diagnostics and gave me the following codes: p0385 and p1317. The exhaust Crank and Cam Position Sensors(Bank 2) were replaced. The mechanic drove the car around ~15miles and the SES light was off. I took delivery of the car and on my way home the SES light came right back :-( Took it back to the mechanic and now his diagnostic tool is showing the following codes:
007 EVANOS1 HALL SENSOR
052 IGNITION COIL 5
022 A VANOS1 EARLY VALVE
125 SPOILER ADJUST
010 A VANOS1 HALL SENSOR
016 KW-INDUCTIVE SENSOR
The car runs well with no loss of power. However, I need to get an Emissions test done soon and I know that it will not pass the it.
Please help a confused and frustrated fellow beast owner.
Thanks in advance for your quick response.

Sure be nice to have BMW Specific codes and not 'generic OBD' codes....

There are 2 Exhaust CPS sensors and 2 intake CPS sensors...so FOUR "Camshaft Position Sensors". DO NOT replace the Cranks sensor unless all 4 cps sensors are new and you still have crankshaft position errors.

Common issue: Mechanic replaces wrong bank.

Which were bad, which did he replace?

The BMW codes will tell you which side are bad...generic does not.

My understanding: There are 5 rotating assemblies- crank, 2 exhaust cams (bank 1 and Bank2) and 2 intake cams (also bank specific)... the rotational relationship between these are controlled by the DME through the VANOS.

The engine has no way of knowing when these are giving 'bad' values- unless they are 100% dead. It is common to see a mixture of errors when one or another sensor goes... even to get 'bad vanos' errors along with CPS or Crank errors. The prblem is that all the dme knows is that the timing is off. Running a GT1 test is always more exact, since the DME can exercise specific parameters to check, but an OBDC code is not 100% diagnostic for the specific part that is said to be bad...

As we've discussed, the CPSs might have a 'slow, starting to fail' mode that we should keep an eye on.... that may 'fool' the dme into declaring crankshaft position errors.

It monitors the rotational position of the crankshaft. The crank and cams all have a toothed gear at one end that the sensors can read. Each sensor reads its own shaft...the DME monitors all the sensors. What Ard is saying is that even w/ a proper scan the DME may not be reporting the truly bad one(s)...and with a generic scan dravi's mechanic is going to probably be even more off target.
