My car died

So when I got in my car tonight, I noticed that the engine was making a whining sound that I had never heard before. I didn't know what it was, so I was a little bit worried about what was going on. I park and go to a party, but when I come back, the car barely starts. Fortunately, I get it to start, but the DSC light is on and my gas gauge is reading empty. The battery light also came on and the nav shut itself off. I made it back to campus, but the engine stalled (which I thought was weird) and I had to coast into a parking space.

So do I just need to get a new battery?

-Chris

Sounds like a battery problem. I was browsing the forum and came upon your thread and got worried.

Sounds like you dropped the altenator for some reason (tell tale whining). Not a terribly common problem, but sheeit happens. When this occurs, various lights come on while driving, including the biggest clue of all - the battery light. The battery is not getting current and the car runs off the battery... for a short while, then dies.

You can jump it, but it will die again quickly. You might maintain the jump circuit for a little longer to give the battery some charge and then drive a short distance to an indy.

The following lights were on:

Battery light
Gas gauge E light
Airbag light
DSC light

I've already replaced the battery and the car is running fine now.

I think the car misses all of its mods. It's telling you "I....can't......breathe......"

Actually, wilsodh was right. I didn't notice at first, but the alternator was still whining after I replaced the battery. I took it to the dealer and they concluded that the car needs a new one. Good thing I got an extended warranty.
