New guy jumping on

Hey all,

I'm the new dude, though that probably won't last long. Anywho, I just recently had my beast taken to the dealer to check on a weird steering sound (more on that in a bit) and its still there since they had to order the parts. I miss it so much I thought the next best thing was to seek out a place where others share a lot of passion for a great car. So here I am now a part of the M5 board. It's nice to see that there are some old...more experience dudes, hehe, with the M5.

So that noise I kept hearing I liken to what it would sound like being on an old pirate ship with an old wooden deck just drifting on a calm ocean - a low groaning kind of sound. It turns out my steering fluid hoses were leaking/worn/old and the pump/reservoir (I can't remember what the mechanic told me) is old/worn as well. $1250. This may not be new news to some of the more experienced guys but for you newbies, if you start hearing such a sound, check your hoses and steering fluid pumps (so to speak). So that's my tidbit. Throw it in the archives.

One more thing, anyone know how to upload pictures on the page one is directed to by the "View my M5" link under user name? I keep getting a Code:1 error message.

Glad to be here

ECB, thanks! It can get very cold, especially with the wind that can blow up to 60 mph gusts making it -30 in an instant. but you get used to it. Just recently there was a good amount of snow. in the summer around here though having an M5 is awesome with the wide open roads!

Welcome aboard!
it took me a while to figure out the upload process. i used the FAQ sticky to guide me through it on the forum top of page.
i think there was some approval process too.

Welcome, D-Rod. How long have you had your beast for?

I really don't upload to the site all that often - I use photobucket to post up all my pics. I think it is easier and its nice to have them all in one place, maybe give it a shot.

Welcome and enjoy the beast
I had the same problem few days ago,and the CPO saved my behind again. They told me at the dealer's that the fluid level sensor was not working, and that's why I have not got a code.how about you?

Firebird, I've had my beast since June of this year, so going on for just over 5 months now. It's funny how everyone here refers to the M5 as "the beast"...I find it funny because back in middle school my friends and I knew a girl and we called her the beast...I know, very a-hole-ish of us but, we were just kids.

OC, the mechanic just told me that wear and tear and leaks was probably the most likely cause for my power steering to start making groaning noises. There must be some truth to it since my beast is a 2001 model - the previous owner probably never changed it. i'm the second owner and the reason i bought her was because of the exterior and interior condition she was in...almost brand new! who knows, he's probably a part of this forum!!
