New Member....in search of my first M5 E39...question
Hello,
I am a newbie here, still searching for my first M5 E39, with a question.
I have seen and driven several E39s so far. A pretty clean 2002 I am interested in has the woodtrim and black leather interior but it does not have woodtrim on the handbrake. Is that normal? The owner is the second one and stated that he bought it without the woodtrim on the handbrake.
you sure? I thought the handbrake was leather with wood trim, as well as on later cars with sport trim.

That's not normal, i don't think. I thought the black e-brake handle came only with the aluminum trim. That's not a bad thing (that a previous owner switched out the trim), as long as it was done properly and you like it.
The absolute BEST advice when buying an M5 is to have a PPI done. To not have one done, is asking to be surprised by something down the road, which may/may not be something extremely costly.
That is the way it is suppose to look. I happen to have the Brush Titanium look on mine, BUT everything seems to appear the way it should be ... AT least from what I can tell from your photo's.
ALL stock e39 M5's come with a leather grip hand brake and NO WOOD on the grip itself.
You need to take your pictures ... either in full sunlight ... or in full shade BUT NOT in 1/2 & 1/2 ...
ALL stock e39 M5's come with a leather grip hand brake and NO WOOD on the grip itself.
That statement is NOT correct. "Luxury" interior (as opposed to "sport"), with wood trim, came with matching wood brake handle. That's the way mine came when 'took new delivery. 'Can supply photo, if somebody needs proof.

Normally I would expect that "Luxury"-trim M5s come with matching wood handbrake. Yet, this is the second Luxury-trim one I see without wood on handbrake. Is it possible that for some reason they were stock without the woodtrim on the brake?

I believe that the parking brake handle should match the rest of the wood trim. Is there a receipt that shows the previous owner switched it out for the leather instead? Truth be told, I switched my worn titanium parking brake handle out for a leather one - liked it better...
