Sunroof?

I recently purchased a 2000 M5 and am still learning alot of features of these great cars. Mostly cause of these forums so thanks but i been messing with the sunroof was wondering if the sunroof was suppose to go up when you push forward on the button? If it does mine doesn't. Any reason why?

well first of all it's a moon roof... and if you push the button backwards in the direction of the back of the car the moon roof will fully retract backwards... if you push the butoon up towards the roof the moon roof will tilt up in the back instead of retracting.... hope that helps

And interestingly enough, if you read the owner's manual it'll tell you what should happen when you push the button forward.

And no, he is not being pedantic by telling you it is a moonroof instead of a sunroof. Sunroof's are made of metal, moonroof's are made of glass.

I believe ALL Owner's Manuals can be downloaded from the BMW NA website. Which I prefer to hard copy.

But, strangely enough (last time I checked), the Computer/NAV Owner's Manuals are NOT available for download from BMW NA ... ???

Go figure.

Thanks for the comments. Ok so mine is not working like i figured. It retracts back ok but does not tilt up. In the manual it says to raise it up and hold the button for 20 seconds. Well that is what mine is not doing. Any suggestions?

the manual says to hold the button in the up position for 20 seconds to get it to tilt up in the back???... i don't think so... if the moonroof is fully closed and u press the button up it should tilt up within 2 secs... i hope you aren't trying to do this with the moonroof fully retracted backwards... lol

Ah..yes- to make this more simple.

CLOSE your moonroof. Retract your headliner all the way back so that you can see your moonroof moving. From the closed position try pushing up on your switch...as kindanutz says it should immediately start tilting up at the back end.
