What Nav Software Upgrade?

Hi I'm looking for advice I've been looking to get a new version of my software. 2001 model.
1. how do i know which version i have just now (CD). SW 3 1/30
does this mean any thing to anyone?

Really worried after reading Help needed with sat nav - key cd

What version do I go for for least amount of trouble? and least amount of chance of cocking it up?

I'm supposed to be getting ver29.1. yeh or nae? or is this to new a version??

3-1/30 is pretty old. It's just about the last of the 'full screen' software, I assume you have a 4:3 monitor and not the wide screen version.

There are 2 things you need to be aware of upgrading a Mk III from this type of software :

1) You will need a key CD.
2) The Nav software CD must be a Mode 2 Form 1 disk, if it's not then there is a high probability that you will brick the MK III.

There are plenty of images of the Nav CD software disk about that contain the last version of the Mk III software, 3-1/63 (V22 on), but many of these are not the correct format for the Mk III, they work fine in the MK IV. This is a link to a version with the correct format, but you still have to burn it correctly.

Bottom line, unless you know what you are doing, or willing to accept the reasonably high risk of upgrading a MK III, don't do it yourself.

I've got the full screen 16:9.
As far as I'm aware this is the original software etc. May2001 face lift model.
I understand that you have to use alchohol120 or imgburn.

The Nav software CD must be a Mode 2 Form 1 disk. what does that mean?
i'm downloading the link you sent me.

Mode 2 Form 1 is the format of the CD, like FAT32 and NTFS are hard drive formats.

There are a number of programs that will burn the CD correctly, ImageBurn, CloneCD and Alchohol120 will all do it, but you must check the settings carefully. Also, burn at a slow speed on good quality media.

You'll also need the Key CD, from here, same rules apply for burning.

I've managed to find v31_mode2-form1 NAV disc and the NAV Key CD also.
What I'm unsure about is which files each has 3
image 294915kb
image.cue 1kb
image.toc 1kb
It's the same for both discs. It's from the links above.

Is this the correct files?
as IMGBURN only accepts the IMAGE.CUE file.
I'm a little mixed up,
I have also got the drive speed to 1x for the burn process.

As I don't want to muck up the SAT NAV system.

I'm used to using NERO.

Use ImageBurn to open the files and burn to a CD. Then, use Nero to open the CD and read an image file from the newly burnt disk. Finally look at the disk image propertys in Nero and see what the 'Mode' is.

The firmware disk should have various folders on it, for example CC93_, csb, lankMk2, langMk3 etc.

The key CD is very small, only about 6.5Kb.
