She's Gone :(
Well after a long and enjoyable love affair I am truly sad to say it was time for her to finally leave my life.
I will miss her as she was without a doubt the best car I have ever owned (and I have owned a lot). Without a doubt the hardest trade I have ever made. I hope she ends up in good hands.
Maybe someday BMW will once again build a car as good as this and maybe then I will come back to the brand.
Until then we will have to see how my new E63 fills the void.

Rob,
Why did you sell? Just curious, as I've been going through some restlessness about my car, even though I know it is still a better car than almost everything that I can (or chose to, more precisely) afford. And, I can't loose the feeling that I would miss my M5 and regret the change. I've looked at a few E55/E63s (among others) but can't get beyond the automatic transmission. I know the E63 has larger paddle shifters than the E55.
I'd appreciate an update in a few months on how you like the E63 and how you find the auto box and handling, etc. PM me if you'd rather.
Thanks.

i think you mean 55 series. 63's are naturally aspirated, no supercharger. The 55's are the business as far as tuning and mods go. Cheap power!

Very nice AMG. I cannot help but wonder what interior color your M5 was. Also, what dealer has it now?

How often have we seen these kinds of posts and have heard the words 'she was the best car I've ever owned..'
Good luck with your new gal. Hope she does it for you.

Since I travel moderate to long distances pretty often reliability is extremely important for my primary vehicle. Breaking down and missing meetings is not acceptable.
Since my extended warranty just ran out and there have been more and more "issues" popping up lately I really had no choice.
I really wanted another manual transmission car but since I already bought an E60 M5 two years ago, hated it, and sold it within 6 months there were really no othere choices besides a Porsche Cayenne GTS 6 Speed. As a dedicated Porsche guy (I own and race several) the Cayenne just didn't feel right to me. Anything else (M3, Audi RS4, etc.) would have been too small.
In addition she was just starting to look worn and tired. Owning a successful business I do have somewhat of an image to uphold and she was starting to show her age recently.
So far I am very impressed with the E63 and we will see where it goes from here.

Couldve been solved with a quality detail at Detailing Dynamics!! There is no greater genetically ingrained phallic pleasure than having a real shifter...
