OT - San Francisco Hotel for Family and Beast?

I'm planning a long weekend in San Francisco and would like to stay near Union Square. I am hoping to find a hotel that would be good for the family and have a safe place to self park the beast. Pretty nice hotel rooms seem to run $160-$200 these days, which is fine.
          Anyone have any suggestions?

I'll simply second Richard's recommendations - those are all excellent choices.

          A little OT:

Does anyone have info about the White Swan Inn in SF. I will be staying there later in the month.

Appreciate any info. I'm a SF neophyte.

I just stayed in SF at the Four Seasons on Market (2 blocks from Union Square). It has absolutely fab rooms and service. The car entrance is on Third and very easy to get in and out of the parking and touring around the city. The St. Francis, Cliff and Campton Place are and all fine hotels (roughly same price range) right next to Union Square. The traffic is a mess. You might want to avoid that hassle if you can.

I was in SF in November and stayed at the courtyard by Marriot downtown SF. Very nice and spanking new hotel! They have valet service for your car and they took good care of my father's M5 when they parked it (wrote down the mileage every time I left it to them). I would recomend it to anyone

I stayed at the Westin St. Francis last time I was in Frisco, just a couple of weeks ago. If you do stay there, pay a little more and get the high floor view rooms in the newer tower. The original building really sucks and has a funky smell to it. The hotel is run by a bunch of morons, though. But, the tower rooms are nice, even if they are in the Four Seasons price range.

The Ritz Carlton is also very nice. But no matter what, avoid the SF Hilton, they made the St. Francis people look like geniuses, and the rooms are pretty crappy for the price too.
