Difference between ULF and TCU for Bluetooth

Thought I should ask before giving bimmernav a call but I have a complete retrofit done for my 01 m5 for bluetooth. The problem is the ulf module I had broke and by accidented orderd a tcu/bluetooth unit from an 06 m3. It plugs right in and car recognizes it, but the pairing button no longer works.

Anyone know if i can make this work or should I just sell it again and get a ULF unit? I heard for TCUs they need reprogramming?
