Goodbye M5

Well, last weekend I got into a chain reaction freeway wreck. It popped my airbag and crunched the car pretty good. Today USAA told me they are gonna total her out. I had extensive documentation so I got a reasonable figure.

All I have is this crappy cell phone picture with one angle of the wreckage.

Anyhow, I'm not planning on buying another at this point. Its a great car, but I see this as an opportunity to try something new. I'll be posting some items in the for sale section that I was able to remove from the car.

Thanks for all the help, this has really been a great place.

Glad your'e ok. I know you looked long and hard to find that "Beast". I also know you worked many hours to get her they way you wanted.
Were you given the option to buy it back? We bought our Exploder back for $600 and I put $350 in parts on it and sold it for a profit.
Best of luck.

Glad I'm OK too. That thing held up beautifully given the impact. I've heard that about every BMW thats been in a good wreck, but I've never had an experience like this before. I'm really lucky I was in this car. My POS commuter car might have been a different story.

I just finished putting the final touches on it. Euro Hella's, DVD Nav, Bluetooth, Interior Xenons, Intravee 2/Alpine iPod kit, the car even had option code OAAB - 100% Options. It was really the perfect car.

The didn't give me the option to buy it back, but they did give me a figure (which I'll post as soon as I have the check in hand) which was good, so I didn't even ask.

Ugh.

usaa rocks. I'd be interested in your DVD Nav and the screen. I don't think they'd know if you swapped the older stuff in.

I don't have physical possession of the car anymore, so I'm afraid that I can't do any more swapping than I already have (returning it to stock, except the Dinan exhaust and software). I have the Mark IV Nav computer, but not the screen. I swapped the Mark III computer back in. I just put the Mark IV in LAST WEEK!!! Its got a copy of the 2007.1 DVD in it. Paid $645 on eBay for it. I'm open to offers. I'll put a post with the 6 or 7 items I have from the M in my garage in the for sale, probably tomorrow.

I'm interested in the Intravee setup. Were you able to recover that?

It's a shame to see another LMB go down, but in the end all that matters is that you are okay. I have USAA also and have always gotten great service from them.

If you have not already, maybe you can inquire how much they want to buy back the car "as is" - I might be interested in buying and parting it out like I just did with a 2003 Carbon Black from a friend who wrecked it. Can't hurt to have a little extra cash on hand when my wife gives birth in 5 months to our first child! PM me if you are able to contact USAA about possibly doing this. I'd pay all transfer fees of course, plus the cost and finder's fee to you.
