HPF velocity stacks

OK boys and girls,
Todays question is about HPF velocity stacks.
I was reading the post about the twin turbo deal and it had a cool pic of the HPF velocity stacks in the post. I am curious about these vs the stock tubes of snakes the stock set up uses. I can see if the HPF are larger in diameter of the ID how it would let more air in, but they are really short compared to stock. If I remember my drag racing days correctly the velocity stack length can be used as a tuning device to move the peak HP range up or down the RPM range, and the longer the stack, the higher the peak HP RPM band would be (I think), thats why the stacks were always a foot long thru the hood for peak HP on drag cars. It really surprised me that the stock tubes were as long as they are, and the "hot rod" tubes were as short as they are. If I were to put the HPF stacks on my car.....would it mess up the computer tune of the car, and would it LOWER the peak HP RPM band?

Just trying to teach and ol' dog new tricks,
any DINAN, HPS, or tuning guru's on this board?

There is mention in the HPF blog on their E46 fanatics edition stating that the stacks do nothing for the non-FI S62.

Others on the board who have tried changing the stacks alone, have reported significant loss of low-end torque. The physics are beyond my own pea brain, but my understanding is that the OEM stacks are pretty close to optimal for the stock S-62

Hope this helps

Brian
