Aux. Fans are killing my battery. :(

Hey guys,

Got a weird little gremlin here.

For a while, my battery has been randomly draining itself, and as a result I've been needing to use a booster pack to start my car after it's been sitting for a while. I think I know what is causing it....

I got in my car today, and before I even put the key in, I could already hear the fans going... but my auxillary venting is off, and there is no timer in place that would result in them turning on at 10:30 AM. I put my hand into the driver's footwell and could feel cool air coming from the ducts, but nothing from the main dash vents. I turn the key, and the air starts coming from the dash vents instead. Turn the key back off, and the airflow reverts to the footwell, but nothing to suggest that the aux. vents are on. (Usually the little red fan light flashes on the Nav.)

Anyone else had this before? Any idea of how to fix it, aside from going down to a dealer? Any fuses I could pull to reset the climate control computer?

Thanks.

sounds like a bad 'final stage unit' (not sure if that's the correct term), which is a common failure and causes cabin fan weirdness.

Classic FSU failing/failure. Just be glad yours did not go up in smoke like mine did a few months ago.

If you are in a rush, your dealer should have the part for about $100. Swap out should take an hour max. Much less time if you are flexible and have small hands as you'll be spending time in the passenger foot well.

Money well spent.
