The new very cool -and very expensive- Range Rover!
Do you want the ultiamte off road vehicle with as much BMW parts in it and developed by Wolfgang Reitzle, former technical chieff of BMW and still drives an M5
I like the car and is gladthere is a BMWish alternative to the rugged off road cars such as Mercedes G Wagen, good joob Reitzle!
Engineering video:
http://www.rangerover.landrover.com/...edium_long.wmv
Design:
http://www.rangerover.landrover.com/...edium_long.wmv
Recognize the 16:9 Navi? Andthe 4,4 liter 540i V8? Steptronic gearbox? Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and the Land Rover-pioneered Hill Descent Control (HDC). The standard anti-lock brakes (ABS) are supplemented by Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)?
Cool features are Bi-Xenon among others and beautiful interiour.
Funny thing isthat Reitzle was in charge for it at BMW when BMW owned Land Rover. Then Ford bought it and later hiredReitzle who came back to the project
"A key champion of the car when it was still on the drawing board was Dr Wolfgang Reitzle, then the member of the board of BMW responsible for product development.
Dr Reitzle left BMW to join the Ford Motor Company in April 1999, becoming President of Ford's Premier Automotive Group (PAG). He was instrumental in the purchase of Land Rover from BMW in July 2000 when the company joined Jaguar, Aston Martin, Volvo and Lincoln as part of the Premier Automotive Group.
Dr Reitzle said: 'Land Rover is the world's pre-eminent manufacturer of four-wheel drive vehicles and the Range Rover is the original luxury SUV.
'The new Range Rover is truly extraordinary. Its unique combination of go-anywhere skill and luxury means its closest rivals aren't other 4x4s but the finest luxury saloons in the world."

I think the exterior looks great.... much nicer than the current version.... the interior though, is kinda fugly looking... doesn't really match the character of a ranger rover...

I ordered one because I disliked the X5's so much (4.6 included). Hey, it's even a bmw!
The interior is definetly up to par, so much as I can tell, and the exterior, while boxy (damn tail lights bother me), is very "Rover," which is part of what I like about it. Besides, 20" wheels come as an option.

Gustav,
I wish you included an option for neither.
between the two- Ill go with the BMW- but Im not a suv person.
IMHO- the new range rover is 2 steps in the wrong direction exterior style wise. the interior is OK. The best range rover was 2 models (inc the new one) ago.

I love the new Range-Rover. I prefer it to the X5 but then again the Range is more like a SUV 7-series and the X5 is a fiver. And boy is it expensive too...

Wait....
Ones great off road and average on Road, ones great on road and better than average off road.
Wait for the 347 bhp of the X5, still cheaper than a Rangie

as good as the X5 is, can you say that the Range Rover is still top of the heap? I like the style of the X5, but also like the original boxy style of the Range Rover.
But then again I can't afford either
