i have to choose between impreza or m5. in data sheet they are all moste same(acceleration....). but the price is different. i would like to know who will be faster for 100m accelaration. i sure hope it's m5, and i hope that impreza is nor rival for m5......ever??? i have read that m5 is a superb car..i belive it. but is impreza rival for m5.
If you have the money get the m5 there is not really comparision..luxury in the m5 is just way ahead, in my opinion looks are also better(especially over the facelifted scooby) how they depreciate etc...now performance...standing start the two are very close to 60mph 60mph the m5 will just run away from the scooby(as a fellow board member called kaufmann he is our resident scooby expert)
we had some encounters with a subaru wrx sti on the track...round the twisties we could keep up with him and then we would leave him on the straight...
Scoobies are great and i like them a lot but they arent really in the same league...they are a great bang for the buck tho...
all the best
Adam

I own both cars, although I have the US version of the WRX (not the STI). They are two completely different cars. The WRX is versitile (all-weather) and has great bang for the buck, but to compare the two cars is rediculous. The M5 is in a class by itself.

The M5 and the Subaru are two very different cars but when it comes to performance, the Subaru will beat the M5 on short sprints. The Subaru has four wheel drive, short gears, fair amount of power depending wether it is STI or regular version, and weight advantage. The M5 will annialate the Subaru when it comes to high speed runs. I believe anything after 3rd gear the M5 will catch up. As an overall car, the M5 is definately king. You have comfort and performance all in one very good package.
It all depends on what you are looking for. If you want something with power, looks, comfort, and status go for the M5. If you are looking for just pure performance and possibilities of endless modifications and could care less for comfort and what not then go for the WRX. If you buy the Subaru, you could use the money you saved to modify the WRX. In Japan, the market is huge for that type of cars and you can modify the car up to 400+ horsepower.
I personally come from a background (so to speak) of modified Japanese cars. I have had turbo charged Civics to Nissan 240sx with the japanese engine conversion. I own an M5 now which I enjoy greatly but I still love the fun in modifying Japanese sports cars. Hope you find the right car for yourself.
impreza is a great car by the way its not 2.5...its 2.0l
the m5 and the impreza arent even close in performance its a total diffrent league.
though......AWD -turbo-light car ---very brutal permanent awd system is making them imprezas totally unbeatable from dead stops.
stock wrx will jump on everycar if the clutch is released at 5+k rpm
0-30mph after that m5 will catch in no time and thats it bye bye scooby and enjoy the 4tail pipes view.
but again u need to be a very good driver since the beast is very hard to launch -a skilled driver in a e39 m5 can hang with a STI (280hp scooby) even off the line.....the scooby will jump 1/2-1 car length on the m5 by the end of 3rd the m5 wil pass and leave the scooby behind.(we had a vid here once(
+scoobs are very easy to tune.
if u have 20k to put on a scooby u can make it a 996tt killer (i've seen some in my own eyes)
i love them scoobies for being cheap cars for pure performance if u'r looking for luxury and a smooth ride.....forget it.
the m5 is a great car i love it i adore it and all the scooby drivers will not race it on highway speeds......only off the line for short sprints.
Get the M5. There's just no comparison. And why would you base your car-buying decision on acceleration and 100m times?
Well, the M5 would be my decision, if I could afford it and that's my advice to you if you can afford either car. It's a lot more refined inside and the engine is naturally aspirated, not turbo-charged. 400 horses and the title of fastest sedan in the world, I wouldn't choose anything else other than the M5.
