I have been told by someone else that you can buy the clear corner lens for a 2000 headlight, remove the clear corner piece and make it work for a 2001+ headlight. What you need to do is bake the headlight, and they should come apart. Then apparently it is possible to remove the amber corner piece, and replace it with the clear piece you removed from the 2000 headlight. Anyone else have any input on this?

No real updates except that there is no good replacement. Schmidmann (sp?) Had lens replacements which were the best option but those are now discontinued. If you have the headlamps that can be baked open, you can replace the amber corner piece with ones from an aftermarket headlight or take the oem piece and tint or paint it.

I thought I saw someone recently mention a different source for new lenses, maybe Turner?

Thanks for the info. Last I heard they didnt know whether they would be able to get those parts ever again.
I decided to check out the site today after not visiting the site in a long while and ordered both headlamp lenses and a pair of black chrome kidneys.

For anyone else interested, the site shows there are about 25 sets left on the clear cornered post facelift e39 headlamp outer lenses.

Isn't it true you can't bake the 2003 headlights and open them up but <2003 you can?

I tried to sand mine down and polish them but desperately failed, so I spent the money and got new lenses. If anyone wants a set of lenses to try and polish, I have them

I read on here that the best way to check if your headlights use glue or black silicone is with the sight window at the top of the headlight housing. If it's clear, you can bake them apart.
