I decided to go out for a drive a while ago, so I ended up going out on some country highways to practice my down shifting technique. After I had gotten a little better at it, I made a u-turn to head back home and shortly afterwards, I see a silver Challenger coming up behind me. "Oh man" I said to myself "I hope it's the fastest one!"
Turns out it was. I slow down so he can catch up and make eye contact. We nod at each other and stay side-by-side as we near a red light. He must have just picked it up because he said it only had 150 miles on it. He also had a passenger with him. We start to roll as the light turns green and both gun it at around 20mph. We only got up to about 80 or 85 due to traffic, but we were dead even the whole way (except when I shifted too early from second and he gained ground).
We came to another light and he asked if I had done anything to my car. I smiled and said "nope." His car was definitely not broken in, but I could tell that when it is, it'll probably creep away from the M. The two cars do have pretty similar horsepower and weight values, however.
Speed aside, the Challenger looked great and sounded AWESOME. The exhaust note was along the lines of the classic American muscle car and it made me drool. Not too bad for an American car!

....And his car is 10 years newer design
Oh i wish ( i could not even have a license back then) that I could have owned a E39 M5 the day the first one was built, oh what a uber-machine it was.
definetly faster car, i raced a stock 300 srt8 when they first came out long while back, it blew my doors off. well not blew them off but it was definetly walking away from me at any speed. you have to have atleast about 50 horses on top at crank to keep up with these things. remember they have 425 hp, but they ahve way more torque than the S62

Yep, I was surprised that I kept up. The torque is 420 ft/lbs.
I really do like the Challenger and as of now it is the only car with which i'd replace the M5 (but only after the M5 reaches the end of its life). I love the look and the sound. But I gotta see about its handling. Hemi with a 6-speed manual, too. Oh, and in black or military olive.

M5's have a lot of variation in power output from one car to another. I was side by side with one bone stock...havent found one to race with headers etc.. on the car.

Current SRT-8 Challengers are all auto's. Have to wait till next year before we see the manuals. Also, remember that though it has 10 years on us, the car is half of what our cost when new. I'll never sell the M5, but Challenger is next on my list of cars.
They are really strong cars, but our cars arent too bad, we can keep up or even go ahead of those cars, it all depends on the person driving and his driving skills.
