Won't start

So, I've been thinking it's the intake CPS that's been the culprit of limp home mode and rough idle. Driving home on Saturday, the engine finally crapped out. Barely enough power to park it safey. Turned engine off, now it won't start (cranks, but doesn't start). Intake CPS arrived today, just need to get off work. Dx correlated with emissions scan code (OBD2, don't have peake) of stating: P1526 (BMW Specific) - "A" Camshaft Position Actuator Control Open Circuit Bank 2.

So question: In your experience, does a faulty intake CPS cause a car not to start? Or just run like crap? Exhaust CPS in bank 2 was replaced and there was some improvement (couple weeks ago).

Thanks!

I can't say that I've had that particular code, but based on the description it doesn't sound like the typical faulty CPS, but rather like a complete failure. A faulty CPS just gives a bad value or one the CPU doesn't expect. "Open Circuit" typical refers to the absence of a value, and it would not surprise me at all if BMW decided that no CPS value was a "no start" condition.

Well, I guess the only way to find out is to replace the CPS. Since I can't tow my car into my garage (due to grading), I'm doing the work outside. Couldn't quite get it done last night, so hope to get it done today. However, it looks like rain.

I'm not trying to eliminate the CPS, However Keep in mind that an engine that do not start, is either lacking air, fuel or spark....

...at the right time.

Hope to find out today. Car is still outside (not in my garage), so hope to finish up today (I stripped the hex screw, but managed to get it out). Need to get a new screw. And can only work in daylight and when the weather is nice. Got some freak rain in Seattle.

Okay, replaced intake CPS. Still won't start. Engine turning over, but while it's doing it, I'm getting a clicking from I think bank 2. A little frustrated--any ideas?

It's not the battery or starter. It's hard to describe the sound, but it's not either of those.

If a vanos solenoid were stuck, would it cause the engine to die?

I would keep it simple and check the fuel pump first........

It's narrowed down to the solenoid or the vanos system for bank 2. Anyone experience a solenoid going bad and the car won't start at all? Or the entire vanos dying and won't start at all?
