Strange Clunking Noise

Hello All,

My 2000 M5 has around 60k miles on the clock and about 1k miles ago, a clunking noise developed and it is coming out from the left front suspension. This clunking noise can only be heard in stop and go traffic (less than 5 mph; especially when accelerating from a stop). I have advised my trusted BMW mechanic to look into this but he can not diagnose the problem. I had new bushings / tires replaced and alignment done within the last 500 miles but it did not cure the problem. Have any of you ever had experience with a similar problem? If so, please do share. Thanks.

-R

Maybe the shock absorber is buggered?
Or its top mounting is collapsing?

It's bearing! I had the exact same problem. Try to rotate the hub without rotor.

I'm having the same problem, I'm going to replace the ball joint and see if that fixes the problem.

I have recently had this problem. I replaced the stabilizer bar links( 31351095664 ) and that fixed the clunking noise. They didn't feel loose at all, until I compared them to the new ones. You may want to try it. They're easy to replace and not expensive. I got them from Bavauto.com for $29.95ea RealOEM.COM * BMW E39 M5 STABILIZER, FRONT #6
