Simply unbelievable, a new member of the family! My new Beast!
Well I have to start with I have loved my M3, bought it in '98 - hey I needed a 4 door with a kid on the way and have owned it ever since. Well now there are 3 kids so I really needed something that could fit 3 kids in the back with a little more comfort than the M3 could, so I was able to convince the wife that we needed to upgrade to an M5 . Took some searching, but finally found a LeMans Blue (black sport interior) in really good shape from a Board member - ktulu.
Unfortunately he has been pretty sick over the last year and has not been able to drive the car. He and his family are really nice people and made the whole transaction very easy. I certainly wish him the best of luck and ask that all of you keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Hopefully his wife can convince him to get the new M5 and enjoying driving that as much as he enjoyed this one.
I got to enjoy a 10 hr drive home (averaged 24 MPG) and listen to the wonderful sound of the Dinan exhaust. The car is such an amazing highway cruiser and still handles like it is on rails. I got to spend this weekend cleaning it up so that I could post a few pictures.
I also wanted to say thanks to everyone on this Board. Everyone is so helpful. I especially wanted to say thanks to m5 deamon, Irish M5, BuzzedHornet, dereki, and gsfent for all of the help while I was searching for this car.
Unfortunately I have already had to use the search capabilities for a new battery (I already knew I would need this), and found the answers I needed very quickly. The other item that the car is going to need soon is the thrust rods for the front. I haven't been able to find much info in searching for these, so does anyone have any suggestions on what to use, or do I just go with OEM parts?
BTW, if anyone knows anyone that would like a nice '98 M3 (Titanium Silver), one owner, with 109k miles, let me know. I have one for sale!
Thanks again for all of the help and glad to be part of the family!

As to "thrust rods", I am assuming you mean the thrust arm bushings. Do a search for thrust arm bushings and X5 and you should be all set.

Jerry

The PPI indicated thrust rods (left and right) as well as bushings. I have the part number as well and it seems they go by all kinds of names, but the BMW tech wrote it up as thrust rods...I have the part number at work, so I can give that if that would help anyone - (one for each side and then the part number for the bushings).
