I seem to get a lot of wind noise from the moonroof on my car. If the roof is closed, but I leave the sun "screen" open, the wind noise really picks up on the freeway and it sounds like I have a window open. With the screen closed it is significantly quieter. I thought this was normal, however I recently had a 530i as a loaner (nice car, by the way), and the sunroof on that car was dead silent.

Anyone else have this problem? Maybe have the seals replaced by the dealer?

Sounds like your seals are not working properly. Mine does not generate wind noise like you describe. More noise leaks through my roof with the moonroof exposed than when the headliner slide is shut, but that's just because there's less insulation.

After experiencing four E39's I've found that there is a sunroof adjustment issue at the factory. You need to have it adjusted or, less lilkely, have the seal replaced. I was told by a service advisor (not an honest one however) that it's not easy to get it right. He could have been right since the first adjustment made on my 540 was noticeably worse than before. Second time was perfect and has lasted. Two of the four E39's had this issue when new.

My last E-39 developed that problem around it's 2nd birthday. Like you, I noticed it when I had a loaner. I broght it to the attention of my service advisor and they took care of it.

Only 4500 miles on my '02, but no wind noise.
