Do you really need 13 miles to provide a valid benchmark?
IMHO The Ring offers you ALL the nuances of a track...long straights for speed..off camber turns...increasing/decreasing radius...etc...granted it is a bit long...but maybe you can see more durabilty??..lol

In Europe...WITHOUT A DOUBT!!!...but here in the US for the vast majority of people...0-60 & 1/4 mile times equate to performance....only recently have US Manu's been bringing it to Europe and the Ring....mostly GM w/ their Z06 CTS-V etc....dont know if Ford has tested there themselves...and I dont think Chrysler/Dodge has officially brought a Viper in any configuration there either.

You have to take into account what Ring times means to the average consumer, even of dedicated cars like the V series from Cadillac or the upper eschelons of the Corvette.

True...the fact is and I'm sure you know this...many of these cars are not bought by enthusiasts but by those who just want the latest and greatest....for me personally a Ring time is NOT the final word on what I buy...BUT...something I would def. look at...

Don't get me wrong, though. I think the Ring is a good benchmark, but I personally focus on things that I use every day such as 0-60 times, 60-0 distances, etc.
I think the Ring can definitely be the deciding factor if someone is looking for a car that will see plenty of track time.

While 0-60 or 60-0 (which I think is more interesting) are useful benchmarks they show nothing of a car's dynamics in handling, grip, braking repeatability, durability, and overall driveability.

I agree, but Ring times dont really tell you specifics of those. Take the hammerhead in Top Gear's track. It tells you all about oversteer and understeer in less than 300 yards. This goes back to my thought of the nurburgring being really long. I think it definitely tests durability under stress (brakes especially), but for real-world performance on public roads, it's overkill.
And like mentioned before, how many of us have the driving skill to push the limits of the cars like that?

Hehehehhehe...speak for yourself...lol....my cars all saw some sort of tracktime....and one is now strictly a race car...while I am certainly no Stig...lol....I like to push my rides.

All I was saying is that people who push cars to their limits are in a heck of a minority
