Exclamation OT-Nikon Coolpx 5000 Owners-BEWARE

FYI: The company Nikon published a statement stating if owners of the 5000 camera turn it on while the cap is on the lens, the camera will become inoperable due to a bug in the electronics. There is a firmware that you can download from www.nikon.com to fix this problem. You must use this fimware prior to getting the bug problem. If you get the bug problem, you must send your camera to Nikon to have it fixed.
Not exactly an M5 service bulletin, but since some members said they use this camera in a previous thread, I thought it might be useful.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm one of the few who have the CP5k. I actually got notice from the place that I bought it about this very same issue. I already upgraded the firmware and I'm okay now.

Thanks again, Rezf.

I've upgraded the firmware. I have a SanDisk Ultra 512MB Compact Flash card and I notice on the Hi Resolution mode (Uncompressed TIFF) it takes awhile to record the image. Anyone using the IBM Microdrive? Just curious if it is faster.

Now to figure out how to use the rest of these buttons.

Dante, the microdrive is MUCH slower. It was designed for high storage, not high speed. The IBM microdrives used to be the only game in town for huge stoarge but you already have the fastest method going. The microdrives are also very fragile vs. CF, and can drain your cameras battery FAST.

If you don't need the uncompressed TIFF, try storing photos as "fine" jpeg. You'll lose just a little quality in a big printout, but save the images much faster due to the reduced file sizes.

If you need the absolute fastest card, I believe the Kingston CF came in first followed by the Lexar 12x cards in the last report I read.
