Is it just me...

Or are there a LOT of e60 M5's for sale in the classifieds? Is the economy and gas hitting that hard?

The other thing is the cost of e60 M5 aftermarket parts being sold. I mean who would spend $2000 on a used exhaust system and then pay for shipping? Just thoughts and observations...

It wouldn't surprise me if some people are getting tired of abysmal gas mileage, limited range, and lack of low end torque. Oil is pushing $140/barrel with a 1yr forecast of ~$180/barrel. Not something that favors a mass love-in for a gas pig.

Is the e60's mpg much worse than the e39's?

Gas mileage is brutal...I average around 9.8 mpg. I drive moderately (E64 so slightly heavier). I would never dump this car for that reason though.

...

the car is still in production and they're gonna end up pumping out more than there are e39s...sure gas mileage is going to drive some owners to sell, but very doubtfully enough to make a difference...think about what other cars cost 100k...if you can afford that for the most part you have no porblem throwing 100-140 dollars a week into gas...plus the first e60s are going to run out of warranty this yr if they already haven't

edit:

for example here in NY around the boroughs there's idiots who can barely afford an used 06 and on top of that they don't think past either their first yr of ownership and the cost of insurance and they end up selling within months[and the cycle repeats]...I remember an e39 I was looking at months ago...it was a 00' MY with 8 owners...a few of which sold the car in less than 6 months

It just makes our e39's more desireable...and a classic for sure.

If you look in the classifieds, alot of people are getting rid of all there toys - cars, trucks, motorcycles. The increases in all prices, not just gas, is making people really cut back on the non-essentials.

If you do have some cash on hand, now is a great time to start snatching up some real bargains.

Agreed. Gas mileage isn't going to deter a new buyer for an E60, or a well heeled buyer looking to pick up a one or two year old and save depreciation. They can afford the gas, and the cost is an inconvenience, but not a true deterrent if you want an E60.

But the second tier buyers who will come in are going to be put off by gas costs as part of the decision making process, along with no CPO.

Regards,
Jerry

I think the biggest reason would probably be the no CPO offered for the vehs... as maintenance and up keep are very expensive.
