What Should I expect To Pay?

Since I bought my 2001 in December I have been procastinating on replacing my clutch. Looking back being a rookie on M5s I now beleive my clutch was bad at purchase. It seemed fine during test drive however I didn't really test it the way I should of. I was to excited on the possibility of owning one of my dream cars. I have not been able to appreciate the car the way I've dreamed of. I know most would say just replace it. Well in a family of 5 and 2 in college money is always an issue. There seems to always be another more important need for the cash. I have babbied this car everysince I've owned it. Never realizing its potencial. What a waste.
I am not able to change the clutch myself. I talked to my freind who has worked on all my cars and is a bmw specialest and he said $2,500.00 for new oem clutch. I just assumed he was giving me a deal. Is this what I should expect to Pay? Would a dealer be cheaper? I just don't what to take it to a local car repair.

sorry for venting

Jim

seems extremely high to me but maybe hes also replacing the flywheel with a new OEM unit and offering some kind of awesome warranty.

I could be wrong as I haven't had to replace one yet, but I thought it was more around 1500.

...

um...that's gotta be over 50/60% for labor alone, cause all the parts + some other stuff doesn't even add up to what $900
