There was a thread recently about insurance prices on the M5. I am looking to purchase a E39 M5 right now. My question is regarding not only the price but the best coverage and experiences with different companies. I know USSA is great but I don't qualify.
I have been in two wrecks over the past few years. Neither were my fault. I have State Farm. In the first accident we both were covered by State Farm and everything went well. The second was another story. The woman who hit me had Gieco and they were very diffecult for my company to deal with. My auto body guy said Gieco is one of the worse companies to deal with out there.
I have since had issues with State Farm charging me incorrectly for my policy because they listed my son as a girl then they tried to send me a retroactive bill for the difference in price between young male and female drivers. They even tried to report it against my credit. I had to pay $400 for legal services to fight a $600 bill that I shouldn't have had to pay for their mistake.
So my question is this...who has the best coverage for a high end car like an M5? I want the best coverage and I am willing to pay for it. What are your experiences and who do you or dont you recommend?
Pemco - Don't have them now, but they only insure "good drivers". You get one accident + one ticket in a year (i.e., fault accident, cited for following too close or excessive speed, otherwise same (or different) incident(s)), they drop you. They go by driving history as a qualifier (yes or no question) and credit hx for pricing.
Esurance - Don't get them. Still fighting them over a claim (I dropped them when it came up for renewal). Gone to the Washington State Insurance Commissioner (personal friend) and E-surance basically said in insurancese, "go to hell".
Progressive - Had them, never had to deal with them since no claim was ever made.
Farmers - I hate them because two years ago, a guy was being chased by police and nailed an old woman driving a buick, resulting in large amounts of medical bills. Farmers (the old woman's insurance) refused to pay out the claim, since it didn't meet the legal definition of "accident". They finally paid out under massive public protest.
Traveler's - My current insurance company. I love them. Two claims, both the wife, for a break-in and a fault accident. Adjuster came by in a day or two and cut a check on the spot. Really friendly, great customer service. I pay $1068 per year (comparables: $534/half year or $89/month, which I pay the bill monthly). $500 deductibles for comprehensive and collision. 10/25/100 liability. Un/underinsurance is $100 deductible ($300 hit & run). Don't know what glass deductible is. That's all I can remember. Offers gap insurance on new car purchases only for about $3/month (much better than the stealership selling gap).
There ya go.
The Following User Says Thank You to everycredit For This Useful Post:
I have had them for 35 years. I changed to them when I was rear ended, less than a block from my parents home, by one of her neighbors (he was an old, senile phart). They were so terrific in resolving the issue, I went down and signed up.
I had a Porsche 911, and when the insurance guy found out that I drove a Porsche, he said, "No way!" I told him I also had a Mercedes, and he said, "OK," and the Porsche would be fine, if we signed up with the Mercedes as the FIRST car.
I have never had a problem with them. (Don't know about prices, however, as I have 5 cars with them, including the same Porsche. I also have HIGH coverage.)
Safeco has their headquarters in Seattle (drove past their building last year). I have their home owner's insurance (less than 1 year), now. My Mom used to have Safeco (she's no longer here), and never had a problem.
