Help with M Audio subs

So I believe one or both of my M Audio subs is blown. I get that classic speaker farting with bass hits and even with just hard bumps in the road. As if the speaker cone is literally broken.

My car is in today getting a new dash cluster and I decided I wanted to laugh so I asked them if they could source a pair of OEM subs. Price quote $400 each, enter the laughing. So I went on real OEM and found that they were acually $89 a piece, told the dealer and they said I have the wrong part number

Does anyone have a solution for this issue? I just want to hear my bass and not the speaker farting! Im not looking to upgrade just fix this problem!

Thanks

Ryan

Only way is to replace the speakers... sometimes, doing a upgrade is actually cheaper then OEM... haha.

I do not have a solution, but am interested to know what others may have done as well.

Since your crappy OEM subs are toast, you might take the opportunity to replace with a good aftermarket sub/subs. I went the BSW route and couldn't be happier, but there are a lot of options out there. Personally, I wouldn't waste my money on anymore OEM speakers. BMWs aren't generally known for their sound systems.

Brian,
Did you remove the stock subs or just disconnect them? I have thought of doing the BSW route but they obviously don't have a replacement for their crappy open air OEM subs.

I still have a JL 8'' W7 from my old Audi that I have considered putting in. It hits 10x harder then both the OEM's combined.

Would be interested to hear what others have done. I would like to remove my subs COMPLETELY, and put in replacements that would lack a little bass, but at least I would have a full-sized trunk at my disposal.

IMHO, the stock M-Audio subs aren't worth dragging them around with me all the time.

If someone has any suggestions, I'll happily sell you my subs for a good price .

Hi Ryan,
In order to install the BSW sub enclosure, you completely remove the 10 inch OEM subs. The enclosure box then is affixed underneath the rear deck into the trunk with the woofer firing down. For what it's worth, I have seem many different configurations for subs on M5s. I am sure that one can get a "better" sounding sub than BSW for a lower price...the benefit to the BSW system is simplicity and ease of interaction with the stock system. The downside, is that with any sub enclosure, you do lose trunk space.

Cheers,
Brian

Good to know. BSW does not indicate how to install their box on a M audio equipped car. I assumed it was similar to the DSP only system install but you verified it for me! Where did you mount your amp?

Back of seat or under m-mobility kit. I did the latter.

I did the same...took out some of the foam molding used to hold the M-Mobility jobby, put the amp on a pad and used some of the original packing material for the amp to gently "wedge" it in to prevent movement (during high speed maneuvers ).

I found this easiest and provided quick access during tuning/calibration.
