Anyone know how to change the text on the accept screen similar to what Fast 5 posted on the other nav update thread currently in progress?

Thanks for any info.

OK, when I said NavTweak for dummies, I meant really dumb. When I open Navtweak 2.6 and it says 'File Not loaded', what exactly am I loading and from where? I did the v30 upgrade with one of your custom splash screens a little while back. So am I modifying something with this and re-loading it on the car? Thanks for help.

When I load the CD with the v30 which I burned with Imgburn, open NavTweak, open folder V_2, open folder RR, open folder 0101, open folder BMWC01S, open folder app_sw, open navboot, then select Strings, language American, and scroll down to 1/706, I see the text to change. Does this sound like the right place? If I have v30 already loaded in the car, do I need to upgrade to v30+ or v31? Is there any trick to saving the changes made through NavTweak? Thanks for any info.

Sounds like the right place. From my understanding (which may be way of here) you need to take the ISO file and extract to a folder of your choosing. Then use NavTweak to make adjustments to the navboot file and save. If you have V30 loaded right now you can either make adjustments to sw_rel.tbl and lng_rel.tbl yourself with a hex editor in order to increment the version. Or the easier way is to download those files from D's website and place them in the right folder (\V_2\RR\0101\BMWC01S\). I would download both versions as this will allow you to make changes whenever you like (i.e. Go from V30+ to V30, then V30 to V30+, then V30+ to V30, etc). You can also download V31 and make your changes to that ISO file. After this you need to create an ISO file with the new and improved files, then burn that ISO to a CD.

Good luck, I'm going to try this myself sometime this weekend

You have MKII, like me until yesterday. Now I have MK3 that shows a splash screen.

You know how on your car, when you get in, the screen turns on but is blank showing just the date and time at the bottom? Well it shows a splash screen on the MKIII. What I want to be certain of is if I can edit that splash screen or if it's only doable with MKIV.

Gotta tell you though, it's a hell of a nice upgrade. Faster, more accurate, and more parameters for navigation (avoid tolls, etc, etc). I recommend it.

What I've done so far is to download the v30+ ISO file from Derek's site, opened it up with Daemon tools, saved the navboot file to my desktop, modified the file with NavTweak, saved it back on my desktop, but I'm not sure how to save it back into the ISO file so I can then burn a new CD.

No, I PM'ed Dereki who seems to be the nav wizard but he never responded so I sort of tabled the project. I did use imgburn to try to create a new ISO file with the modified navboot, but every time I put the CD into the nav drive, nothing would happen. Derek, if you read this, any suggestions? Thanks!

Sorry, missed the PM (I prefer to keep things in the thread because I have a better chance of seeing it).

I recommend using UltraISO. It sounds like you managed to extract the navboot file and edit it, but missed inserting it back into the image. In UltraISO, navigate to the proper folder and hit F3 (add files) and insert your version of navboot. Save the image and then burn with ImgBurn.

PS. Not nav wizard :), just following other peoples findings...

I have an 02 M5, i am certain the unit i have in the trunk is a MARK III unit. It does not have the DVD icon. I do not have the CD/DVD NAV disc, so i have been searching on ebay for an updated one. Will the 2007.2 work with my system? I am not sure if the car has been upgraded to the MarkIV system...i read that only requires a cable. How would i know if i can use the DVD or not. As well, i was wondering if anyone could tell me what operating system (firmware) i need to be at, before i can add the tweaks that you all have done to your splash screen. Is it possible to have the M Splash screen dereki created and have the message accept screen that everyone has tweaked? I'm still a bit confused, and i apologize for making this thread redundant...but if someone were to post a thread with all the specific instructions and steps to take...as well as all the required firmware, software, etc. That would make it easier than people posting questions in 10 different threads. If one exists...i haven't found it yet, and would love to know if someone can point me in the right direction.... Thanks for everyone's help.

First: Mk3 = CD based = no upgrade (not easily, anyway). MK4 = DVD based = easy upgrade as detailed. To go from MK3 to MK4 requires a new Nav unit, not just a cable.

You may want to visit the Nav section of www.x5world.com. Re-stating all the information available there in this forum would be a waste of time.

Lastly, some post advice: construct your thoughts before posting. Posts without breaks are very difficult to read.

Dereki Please check PM from me

Hey Dereki...i sent you a PM, i know you tend to read things more in the boards, but i was hoping to reach a deal with you. I will entertain the notion of you making the disc for me and mailing it to me... i'll pay for the shipping and your time. Please see the PM. Others may be willing to do so as well.

thanks!

Nav Upgrades

Roger....

Apologies for run ons and failing to use breaks

I have checked out X5world. I figured it would take the nav unit switch, but I have also read confusing literature amongst many different boards and websites. I'm still trying to learn as much as I can about these beasts.

Thanks for the reply Doug

For what it is worth, the upgrade itself is very easy (takes about 10 minutes even if you don't know what you are doing - takes me about 3 now...). Cost-wise you should expect to pay about $750 for a new MK4 but can recover about $300 of that by selling your MK3.

It is definitely worth the effort - MK4 is much faster, better views, and customizable. MK3, well, isn't :)

So this cant be done on a MkII nav? I have a 4:3 screen that has a warning splash on it...
16:9 and DVD are too expensive for me to upgrade to at this time, but hopefully in the future..

Douglas, thanks. 16:9 will come before DVD if I have to do it in stages. I dont use nav alot in the car, so would be a cosmetic upgrade mostly.
Thanks agian :)

Thanks for the good "Gouge" on the Nav systems and upgrades. I know this has already been covered in many previous threads, and I am sure the redundancy can be nerve racking at times.

I still have plenty to learn, and there appears to be an intense amount of info stored in these threads and message boards on the M5. My goal is to eventually avoid asking questions and requests that have already been answered multiple times in the past.

Thanks again..

P.S. "Gouge" is a military term we use for "Important or Necessary" Information!
