Even with matched power, I think the lower weight of the M3 would give it an advantage. You will probably need at least 470hp to keep up with the lighter 414hp M3 has a 8.4lb/hp ratio. The E39 M5 is 10.3 lb/hp. So a Dinan S2 should be keeping up (matched lb/hp but less weight/torque).
Since I'm not a fan of the new 5 series look, I think the natural successor to our cars is that new 3 series. I figure run the beast another few years (gotta let depreciation do it's magic to the new cars), then I may be headed there.
the question in my mind at that point, is to keep the beast or not. And that may be a question answered after driving both a few months.
