Subwoofer question

Hey Guys,

Has anyone put an aftermarket subwoofer in place of the 10' subs that come with the M-audio system? More specifically a 10' JL Audio W6

Thanks
Chris

I have dual JL 10w3's but not free air like the M woofers. Have em in a box with a port out the center ski pass through on the rear seat. Look up member DouglasABaker he has the most comprehensive writeup available for e39 M5.

GL!

Yeah, I've wanted to replace the M audio subs with some rockford fosgate P3 shallow woofers. Although I think MBWMPWR is correct, almost any aftermarket (especially the jl W6) will probably sound like poop in a free-air design.

Thats just a guess though, it might sound good? I just didn't want to spend the money on the subs for it to sound like crap...

Yeah me too. I think I could get something custom like the BSW setup that encloses the sub, but I'm concerned that the power might shake the shelf and make it sound like crap

I'm not sure what you expect to shake in your car...

I don't know if you were set on a certain brand, but you may want to also check with board member ATLANTA M5. He posted his setup in this thread.

My friends mom bought a jaguar that had aftermarket subs mounted in the rear shelf and the rear window would make an awful sound when the sub hit. I'm just wondering if the same would happen if I did the same thing.
