Outside temp gauge reads -40 f

I live in Arizona so I know that it is obviously screwed up.
          Any ideas how to fix?
          Thanks all!

sounds like the sensor is broken or has come unplugged.

I think lower right hand corner tucked under the front bumper/lip. A spin to realoem.com might prove helpful.
          Regards,

On the front, passenger side. Look under the car in front of the wheel. The plastic cover has setup where the sensor is. It would be best to jack the car so that you can work on it a bit better and actually see what you're touching.

sensor reads -40 when it is "open". You can actually see it and get to it laying on your back just toward the engine from the pass. front tire. Can't miss it. Only sensor visible from under car w/o removing anything.

So how do you "close" it?

I've had mine like that since I bought the car and was never able to fix it. When that area gets wet, it shows all kinds of numbers but then it goes back to -40 when it's dry. I tried shorting the wires and doing some dinan magic (their suggested procedure for resetting it) but then instead of -40, it shows +122. Then when it gets wet, it shows weird numbers and then back to -40 it is.

An "open" wire will read -40. A shorted wire will read +122. It sounds to me like your connection right at the sensor is corroded. When it gets wet, it starts to conduct partially and the reading would go up and down...eventually, settling back to -40 again when it dries out. I doubt a new sensor is your issue, but they are cheap. I would clean the hell out if the connector first-both ends should be shiny clean. Harder with the female plug. Try WD40 and a tooth pick with sand paper on it. Or, get a new plug and sensor. Lightly coat the connection with dielectric grease seal it up. If it reads correctly, use a little heavy grease around the outside to keep water out.

          Bill
