Windshield & Headlamp washer questions ('01)
Just looking at owner's manual (p.66).
1] Looks like standard wiper/wash (position 5) is pulling stalk towards you. Not sure about intensive wash (position 6). Not clear in manual if that is pulling stalk towards you more than 5 or pushing stalk longitudinally in towards left?
2] Headlamp cleaning says it happens every "5th" time the windshield is cleaned IF the headlamps are on. Mine appears to activate "each" time when the headlamps are on? Normal or problem?
3] Headlamp washer aim - Passenger side seems to be badly misadjusted. Looks like ball-in-socket type adjustment but they don't seem to budge. Any tips?
Thanks,
"Novice" Norm

Norm,
I believe pushing in towards the left (there should be a little button at the end of the stalk) is position 6, or intensive wash which shoots the headlights every time. Pulling the stalk towards you is position 5 which should only shoot the headlight washers once in a while.
HTH,
Marco

from the M5 manual:
Cleaning headlamps
If the headlamps are on, they will also
be cleaned every fifth time you activate
cleaning windshield 5 or intensive
cleaning 6.
__________________________
0 Wipers retracted (normal position)
1 Intermittent mode or rain sensor* (first position)
2 Normal wipe (second position)
3 Fast wipe (third position)
4 Brief wipe (push down)
5 Cleaning windshield (pull towards you)
6 Intensive cleaning* (push the button at the end of stalk)
7 Rotary dial for control of the wipe
interval or the sensitivity of the rain sensor
-----------------------
May I suggest you folks download the PDF version of the M5 manual, and keep it on your PC. It is nice to be able to read a definitive answer instead of guessing.

Arie,
Where is the PDF file available? Or if someone sends it to me, I can put it up for downloading purposes...

Hi 1C00lVC,
.. but in my original post - #2 question - you can see I believe my '01 operation does not agree with the manual (i.e. with headlamps on the headlamp cleaning system is activated on each cleaning, not every 5th cleaning). Could I ask you to check this on your vehicle and tell me the results? I would really appreciate it!
Rgds (and thanks),
Norm

there are two wash reservoirs -- there is a concentrated fluid for the intensive wash reservoir (which the local dealer can't seem to get) so i just dumped in a bunch of washer concentrate with a little water -- not clear that the intensive wash does a whole lot

logon to BMWUSA owner's circle, and somewhere on the righthand frame it has a link to most owners manuals... I like the PDF version as the Index has clickable links to the content..
