SS X pipe installed today!!!
WOW!! I feel as if I have a whole new car!. I finally got around to installing my SS X pipe to my Dinan exhaust and I am one happy camper!
Aside from the sound sounding a lot more aggressive, I can honestly say that I have noticed an improvement in throttle response. I know some of you have reported the same thing but I didn't think it would be that much of an improvement . I installed the pipe just for sound, turns out I got more then I expected!!
I was a little worried that I would see my check engine light turn on. Nope, so far so good. All in all, the car "FEELS" quicker and sounds a whole lot meaner. Also, it feels as if it breaths a lot better. I am so happy, I recommend this modification to all who own an M5. IT'S MUSIC TO MY EARS!!!!
I asked my mechanic to take her up and down the street for me to hear, simply amazing. I now see why you guys went nuts over the X pipe !!

Hello Angel...
I've also considered the SS X Pipe however I was a bit apprehensive about how much louder the car would be. I too have a Dinan exhaust (which is pretty loud IMO).
How much louder does the X Pipe make the exhaust?
Thanks in advance!!
Johnny

BlueBomber,
I won't kid ya, it's significantly louder. I don't mind it but I could understand why others would. From the inside, it's not that much louder. At higher RPMs, the car really screams. At lower RPSs and it idle, it has a deeper growl with a good amount of back firing.
I know that this is not the sound that everyone would like to have. But, if you are looking for some better throttle response, I would do it. I paid around $450 including the installation. You can't go wrong. The sound (IMHO) is pleasant and it's not annoying. I think this has been one of the best modifications that I have made to the car. I love it!!

Thanks for the input Harry...
All things considering the X pipe is probably one of the cheapest mods for the car!!

I have the x-pipe and the dinan exhaust...the sound at high rpm has changed to a loud clang...my tuner thinks that the cats may have been damaged during install and that there maybe loose ceramic pieces rattling around...sooo...on monday, after the catalytic converters are replaced, if the sound is the same, then i will take the x-pipe off and sell it!

I'm sorry to hear about your car... did your mechanic say what caused the problem?

Really?? Did the problem happen right after the install or over time?? Anyone else with the X pipe experience something like this?
That sucks!

All,
Anyone who damaged their cats when installing the X-pipes should shoot the guy who installed the X-pipe. There should not be any chance of this happening if the installer has any experience at all. You would have to use the "jaws of life" to cause this kind of problem for this installation.
Sorry to hear that you may have this problem.
The X-pipe is perfect with the stock exhaust.

Whoever installed the x-pipe needed to be a bit more gentle. The fit is very snug over the original piping, and the mechanic may had to have hammered one end of the x-pipe to get it to fit, but my god, he must have been hammering pretty hard to actually damage the core of the catalytic converter!

I have a question, if I go and buy the X pipes for my father's car, where could I get it installed. A dinan dealership? Bmw Dealership? thanks for any help!

It's not that difficult to do. You could bring it to any place that has a lift (including those chain stores for brakes, transmitions, etc). I took it to my Dinan dealer. BMW won't touch it, in my case that is.
