Bad screeching - whining when turning the steering wheel

I know, it sounds like low power steering fluid but, it is right between the two marks.

Car has 160,000 miles on it - do you think that the power steering is just shot or, could it be that the fluid is not getting where it needs to be?

I replaced two power steering hoses about 70,000 miles ago - any thoughts?

i had this with my e34 540i and after replacing the PS fluid, the sound went away. I think the fluid can breakdown / get frothy if it gets too hot so perhaps it's time you replace it.

Good luck!
