Powdercoating Wheels

I have been wanting to powdercoat my wheels a dark or black color. Well I made an appointment to coat them for $150 a wheel. Is that price a little high? And I have heard that powdercoated wheel get bad scratch marks. Is that true? So I cancelled the appointment until I talked to yall.

Powdercoating is about the most durable finish you can put on a wheel.

I was looking into doing this and called a handful of shops. The average price was about $125 per wheel which is what Wheels America charges. I decided not to do this after thinking about it so I have no other info, sorry.

i did my wheels a couple years ago, powdercoated black. I paid around $120 per wheel. After a few washes, there were a lot of little microscratches in them, like you'd get washing a dirty black car, which could probably be polished out or hidden with wax. I sold the wheels to boardmember louv, so you could pm him to see what kind of shape they're in now.

I've had some of my dirt bike frames powdercoated and it's some very tough stuff. Price sounds high. The problem the coaters run up against is blowing all of the previous powder out of their systems for the color change. If you find a place thats doing a batch of the color you want, it might be cheaper because of the bulk there doing all at once. That anthracite color looks bad *** on any color car. I think thats the same color wheel I've seen on some of the newer Corvettes.

PS-Check out Craftsman's DIY Powdercoating system.
