Interesting.. first I've heard of it. Did you say your idle is bumped up a notch or two? Mine is around 700 rpm. No lash noise and silky smooth idle.. really a perfect set up.

Of course a higher idle and the drag of spinning a supercharger doesn't do gas mileage any favors..

I have to believe it's an idiosyncrasy having to do with the Dinan air-fuel map for the S3. I'm sure it could be corrected but it would take (a) some one with the technical know-how and (b) an interest in doing it. This would be way down on the list of priorities compared to their current star project, the 5.7 liter V-10. I have no illusions of getting help from that source but maybe they will surprise me. At the moment she's idling at 800 rpm, exactly where she was with the S3 flywheel/clutch set up. She's been behaving a bit better after returning to her 100 octane Sunoco diet. Gas mileage - what's that?

Hmm... maybe reset adaptations? To reset, disconnect battery cables, touch the pos to the neg, and give it 20-30 min. Reconnect and . Put some miles on her and see if she smoothens out....

As I understand it, there may be a capacitor or series of them that hold memory for a given period of time as well as being used as a filter to eliminate surges. Hence the 20-30 min.

Let me also stress that while this is a bit of an irritant, the trade-off is going to be in the benefit gained in launch and shifts in the 1/4 mile. But unless someone comes up with a solution, a new S3 clutch will be going back in after this drag racing season is over and we retire from competition.

Does this throw a SES light? Or is it just the feel and sound?

We don't have an SES light now and never have had one through all our trips to the drags. The same holds true for codes - with one 'old' exception. MWW confirmed this yesterday when I took the S3 to their shop had them check her out. It is just a feel and sound thing as you're suggesting.

The next step will be to follow Dave's recommendation of disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes. We will then connect the S3's positive and negative cables to drain off any residual capacitance charge. Hopefully this will trigger the relearning cycle and eliminate this problem.

This problem is unequivocably tied to the UUC flywheel/clutch. When the S3 still had the old heavy Dinan S3 flywheel and clutch (albeit slipping) it idled at 800 rpm and purred like a cat and drove perfectly. The moment the UUC flywheel and clutch were installed the rough idle and surging rpm under no/light throttle manifested themselves. Go to WOT and the problem goes away while you are at WOT.

If you have any other thoughts I'd love to hear them. Thanks.
