'02 M5 high theft rate vehicle? - The Unofficial BMW M5 Messageboard (m5board.com)

I just received my new insurance rates for next year, and I'm quite happy that my rate's dropped $900 to $1200 a year.... but anyways, I was looking through the material that they sent me, and they included a list of high theft rate vehicles in MA... one of the cars listed under BMW was the '02 M5... I don't understand why they would include that, but not any of the previous model years... is there something about the '02 M5's that makes it more desirable to steal? Or is it easier to do so in a '02 than the older ones? I'm quite supprised with this....

It seems that the insurers could only have based that on experience with the prior M5 MY cars. The 02 MY hasn't been out long enough for that kind of loss experience to develop. I was not aware that M5s were considered a high theft rate vehicle.

I received my rate quote last month. The M5 premium was lower than my 97 528i premium on the same policy.

My wife called the insurance agent to ask about the difference in the premiums. The insurance representative said: "M5 ... that's one of those little ones."

Sure. Z3, M5, whatever.

that's what I had thought.. but then they didn't list out '00 or '01 M5s... just the '02 ones..... this insurance stuff is so confusing.....
