oil change

Just completed my 1st oil and filter change in my 01 M5 and thanks to the boards FAQ's it was a simple job. Filter housing on right side next to atf ...unscrew and pull out the filter...click in new one and refit housing lid. The flap under the engine for easy access to the plug to let out the oil is a great idea ...so no taking off of the under engine covers.....let her drain ,refit the plug and fill her up with Castrol Edge 10w60........6.5 litres, check dipstick...take her for a drive..check dipstick after 1 minute at idle...jobs a goodun.......I will always do at least one intermidiate oil change between service intervals every 3000 miles ...........

Well done and simple write up to boot. I think I'm pretty good at DIY things like this, but my wife won't let me touch the oil change issue at all. Says I tinker too much with her (the car that is). Where do you dispose of the dirty oil??

You can take the used oil to a local small service station. They'll usually be more than willing to do it for free but toss them a couple bucks anyway.

I see you're in Davidson. Some of the recycling centers here in Charlotte take used oil.

Hi Julian...oil is taken to the council recycling place where theres a tank for it to be tipped. As for doing your own intermidiate oil and filter change.. you could do it behind your wifes back while shes changing a light bulb its that quick and easy to do !!!!!!! cheers steve
