Help with possible M5 purchase

This is my 2nd effort to get the M5-off -of my-brain, maybe -lose the wife purchase. I called on this 2003 M5 today before the auction ended. I am in Fort Collins, the seller in Denver. Here is the ebay link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-...569073#history
His actual selling price was 34.9k. I tendered my 95 M3 +23.9. Accepted. I stipulated in a "Buyers Order and Invoice" that the deal is contingent on a PPI of the M5 and his physical appraisal of the M3.
There have 2 prior owners. It recently came off lease. He cannot confirm Inspection 2 at 60k miles, though will contact previous owner and ask. It looks clean. I need records to back it up. Not my favorite color combo (Blck/Blck w/wood trim preferred. I have not looked at Silver /Blck & Gray leather in person.
I plan on arranging the PPI at Murray BMW in Denver on Monday, unless someone might suggest someone else. What might the PPI cost? Should I request a leakdown? Other items I might need to specify?
Any thoughts or comments welcomed.
Thanks, Eric

His starting bid was almost 5k below asking price. I found myself negotiating at quite a bit more than I thought I would. I guess I am wondering if it is a good price for '03 M5 w/64 miles.
I do think the colors are growing on me. It seems that black is somehow more of the Beast look, which I probably don't need. I got pulled over in my A4 last week for not holding my stop for 3-5 seconds. WTF!

LOOKS clean.

You should find the "CPO Checklist" and ask that the BMW dealer inspect everything that they would do for a CPO. You should be aware that there is no such thing as a "PPI".... or at least there is no common definition. Heck, an SA could do one from his desk ("Our PPI consists of us looking at the car and verifying exterior color- $200 please".) You get my point...

I've not been following prices, but I'd say low to mid $30s for an 03 with 65k miles in great shape.

Make sure there are NO mods to anything- or at least you know what they are. I read it has a "Harmon Kardon Stereo" somewhere...

The Inspection II, which comes AROUND 60k can be hugely expensive! $2000+ Plugs, coolant, brakes all around, filters, check, check, inspect... do a search for "Inspection II".

Good luck

A

I agree about the PPI. Can you get a dealer to CPO a car? I bet that too would cost around 2k. I am mainly concerned with Inspection 2. He said if it has not had one, he will pay for it, but I don't have that in writing.
What do you all think of this color? It is clean, two tone seats may wear better than black? Thanks,
Eric

The seller has good history and it's a beautiful color combo. Did you check out the build date?? I wonder if this is one of the last M5's off the line in Dingfolding.

Good luck!

New Owner of M5

Thanks for responding Kevin. Leon worked with me on a few issues. The build date is 4/03. I don't know the last date they were built. I am very happy with the car. May attend the DS near Omaha? that is coming up. Are you going?

Worth it? I think so!

Thanks TopEnd. I paid $3,500 for Extended Warranty. Seemed expensive to me. This was negotiated down from $4,600. Good for 36,000 miles. Led to believe I could not shop it around so it was included in sale, ie.; his profit. Oh well, feel much better with it. Already noticed that when I push the button to fold the side mirrors, one closes and the other opens. They are out of synch. Someone forced the driver side mirror and it is loose and the glass won't stay at proper angle. I guess I'll find out about the Warranty soon!

It is very nice indeed. I paid around $189 for my PPI in Montreal and the mechanic let me watch the whole time right beside the car and explained everything in detail about the car not that there was anything wrong with it but just things to look out for. He said it is his favorite car period which is pretty cool coming from a BM Mechanic/Technician.
